Jeff Leach is a science writer, anthropologist, and health advocate. Jeff is the founder of the Paleobiotics Lab and heads an active research program to explore nutritional aspects of our ancestral diet and its possible application in understanding modern disease and nutrition. He is currently pursuing a PhD (New Orleans, Louisiana). He has been actively conducting scientific research for over 15 years and has published over 50 scientific peer review articles and abstracts, authored and coauthored several books (in press), delivered over 85 papers at national and international conferences, organized symposia and conferences at the national level, was elected “Anthropology Chair” to the Texas Academy of Sciences, and serves as a nutrition and health consultant to a number of organizations and corporations.

He is the recipient of a number of research grants, member of a number of professional societies, and lectures to professional and general audiences all over the world. His current research projects include evolution of diet and health in the American Southwest, northern Mexico, Western Europe, and sub Saharan Africa. His research in the American Southwest includes an evolutionary perspective on type 2 diabetes among central Arizona's Pima Indians and the development of the Human Hybrid concept for understanding "Syndrome X". He is also keenly interested in natural plant medicines used by the 200,000 plus traditional healers of South Africa.

He is the author (with GR Gibson & J Van Loo) of the forthcoming book Prebiotics: Optimal Health and Well-Being, 2007. He is working on two other books as well: The Human Hybrid and It's the Fiber, Stupid!.
